The Race to the Top of the Billboard 100 Between Dro Kenji, Migos, Polo G and More

This week in music started off with a bang. It included many new albums that dropped on Friday and the race to the top on the Billboard 100 began. The deluxe to Culture III and the album as a whole showed that the Migos may not have the same effect that they had in 2016 and 2018. Despite that they are still in the race for the number one album like they have been many times before. Their competition begins though with Polo G with his album Hall of Fame that came with a different vibe to it than all of his other music. He changed up how he wants to portray his music in order to show that he can experiment with his sound and craft. Polo G has been on a tear since his breakthrough song “Pop Out” with Lil Tjay in 2019. He has been dropping hit after hit and has been bringing his life before fame to the rap culture for everyone to experience. A thing to look out for is Polo G’s deluxe, which he tweeted about saying he feels like it will be better than the original album. A newer artist that goes by the name Dro Kenji has been on the rise since his debut album Tears and Pistols. He was able to show off his sound by bridging rap and rock together to give the rap game a new sound that has been very popular this past year. There have been artists that have done this recently but I just think it fits his persona as a whole.

The new artist Dro Kenji, who has ties with internet money, has been going crazy since 2020. His debut album Tears and Pistols showed that he wasn’t here to play around and that he was here to stay. With keeping the routine of dropping two albums per year he isn’t overstaying his welcome on people's playlist like other artists have been doing. With each new album he shows off another piece of himself that we didn’t know he had. His albums that he has dropped have bridged the genres of rap and rock to create the popular emo rap sound that everyone seems to love. The most recent album that he dropped on Friday,“F*ck Your Feelings” shows that he has a lot to say, with the album giving light into his luxurious lifestyle now that he has made a name for himself in the rap game. Keeping with the luxurious theme he has a song titled “Expensive” where he just talks about how he spends large amounts of money with ease. A staple that many artists seem to turn to these days.

This week in music showed that new artists don’t have to be scared of the big dogs in the rap game when it comes to dropping music. But as the Migos and Polo G race to the top to have the number one album they may run into a problem having to knock off a big target to get to that coveted number one spot. The big target is Lil Baby’s and Lil Durk’s long awaited collab album. Their collab album is projected to hold the number one spot for a while, so if Polo G’s deluxe doesn’t come with that same energy then I don’t think either one of them will be able to take the spot of Lil Baby and Lil Durk on the top of the Billboard 100. Overall we were blessed with a lot of good music from many good artists and I’m excited to see what else we have in these upcoming months.
